Star anise, dry fruits of the star anise tree (Illicium verum), used as a spice and source of pharmaceutical chemicals. It is one of the ingredients in China’s famed five spice powder.
Star Anise is mostly planted in northern Vietnam, commonly harvested in fall. This spice has a slight taste like licorice but bolder and stronger. In culinary, cardamom is a spice widely used in Eastern cuisine, especially in dishes that require long cooking time and possess robust flavors, like Vietnamese pho, curry, and beef stew.
